About us

Away back in 1803 the Whipmen of Linton formed themselves in to a benevolent society “for the bettering of themselves and their children” as the proclamation has it.

The atmosphere on “that gladsome night” has not changed. The neighbouring parishes of Newland, Kirkurd, Carlops and Dolphinton also take part, and as the 4th June 2010 aproaches, all roads lead in to the village green.

When summer smiles in sweet delight,
And fields are starred with dasies white,
Upon a certain gladsome night
Rejoicing start in Linton
